Newbie comply with the EU’s REACH regulations and the strictest laws in the countries where the brand operates, and bases its chemical requirements on Oeko-Tex and the Swedish Association of Textile Importers’ chemical guide. Newbie prohibit the use of PVC, phthalates, banned azo dyes and hazardous flame retardants.

Newbie’s commitment to sustainability involves compliance with a number of international standards:

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard)

This international standard for organic fibres is one of the strictest on the market. Demands are high throughout the entire production chain and neither GMOs, chemical pesticides nor artificial fertilisers may be used. The standard also includes rules for chemicals and social responsibility. You can see which Newbie garments meet GOTS criteria by looking at the hang tag.

OCS (Organic Content Standard)

This environmental standard ensures the control and traceability of fibres that are grown organically, without the use of GMOs, chemical pesticides and artificial fertilisers. 

GRS (Global Recycle Standard)

A world-leading product standard to track and control the content of recycled fibres in the final product. It sets strict requirements in terms of the environment, chemicals, water treatment, and social responsibility.

RCS (Recycled Claim Standard)

A standard to track and control the content of recycled fibres in the final product. Unlike GRS, however, RCS does not include any social or environmental criteria, such as limits on the use of chemicals during production or rules for the purification of process water.

SCS (Scientific Certification Systems)

A standard to track and control the content of recycled fibres in the final product. All claims must comply with ISO standard 14021. The system is based on the calculation and traceability of the mass balance of recycled materials.
